The Ryder Cup is one of the most iconic sporting events in the world, bringing together the best golfers from Europe and the United States in a celebration of competition, camaraderie, and national pride. 

Maverick Social partnered with Ryder Cup Europe in 2023 to create digital content for the tournament’s global social media channels. Our goal was to capture what it truly feels like to be there, not just the golf, but the atmosphere, the fans, and the emotion that define the Ryder Cup experience.

THE BRIEF

The Ryder Cup team wanted to go beyond traditional highlight reels. They challenged us to design a social-first content strategy that put the fans at the centre of the story. The goal was to grow the tournament’s digital footprint and connect with a wider, younger audience online.

We set out to capture every facet of the week, from grandstand roars and concert nights to the quiet human moments in between. The approach was fast, emotional, and visually distinct, reflecting the modern energy of the Ryder Cup.

Working closely with the Ryder Cup media team, we mapped out every element of the fan journey, from sunrise on the first tee to the post-round celebrations. With a lean team on-site, every shot was planned for energy, pace, and authenticity.

We produced 25 unique short-form videos, each designed to tell its own story while contributing to an overarching narrative of passion, community, and spectacle. From the first fans sprinting to the grandstand on Friday morning, in a scene that resembled the running of the bulls in Pamplona, to the jubilation of Europe’s winning moment on Sunday, every piece captured the raw emotion and humour that make the Ryder Cup special.

We also filmed a hidden-camera prank that added personality and levity to the week, as well as a tongue-in-cheek “Italian Chef’s Kiss” video that blended iconic cultural flair with Ryder Cup humour. Each edit was completed on-site within hours, combining punchy music, bold graphics, and sharp pacing to keep fans engaged across platforms.

Across the tournament week, we delivered 25 bespoke videos, each filmed, edited, and published in real time on Ryder Cup Europe’s channels. The result was a record-breaking digital performance that reshaped how the Ryder Cup connects with its global audience.

By putting fans at the heart of the story, Maverick Social helped redefine the Ryder Cup’s digital presence, creating content that felt real, immediate, and impossible not to share.
